J.M. Bailiff Farm

What is a Century Farm?

The Tennessee Century Farms Program was created in 1975 by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture as part of our nation’s bicentennial celebration. The focus of the program is to recognize and document the families who have owned and farmed the same land for at least 100 years.

Inspecting the oil line

Removing the radiator, fan assembly, cover and timing gear

To inspect the oil line, I began by removing the radiator and fan assembly. Next I removed the timing cover and prepared to remove the lock nut and large timing gear. The lock nut would not budge. It was stuck. With patience and the right tool, I was able to remove it. A regular wrench wouldn't fit into the recess.

The oil line was clean and oil flow was good. I then re-assembled everthing in reverse order.

While we had the fan assembly off of the car, we took it apart, cleaned and lubricated everything.

When re-installing the large timing gear, a "0" stamped on the large timing gear meshes with a "Ford 2" stamped on the smaller crank shaft gear to set the correct timing.
