J.M. Bailiff Farm

What is a Century Farm?

The Tennessee Century Farms Program was created in 1975 by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture as part of our nation’s bicentennial celebration. The focus of the program is to recognize and document the families who have owned and farmed the same land for at least 100 years.

Possum Hollow Get Together

Fellowship of neighbors, 2013

Possum Hollow is one of the many hollows leading off to the left of the Dry Creek Valley Road as you come off Highway 70 and into the valley.

In Possum Hollow during the 1920's, 1930's, and 1940's, there were families living on every farm. Some prominent names in the hollow were Hunt, Vandagriff, Tramel, Bailiff, Mullican, Taylor, Hale, Bert, and Pack. Residents and former residents for the past few years wanted to have a get-together, reunion, or show of respect for community and the life that they lived in Possum Hollow, which had a nice public school until the 1940's.

That dream became a reality this year on Saturday, May 25, at the Dry Creek Baptist Church pavillion. Thirty-two people of husbands, wives, and children met to reminiscence, take pictures, eat delicious food or just see each other.

For some it is too late. Addie Sue Bailiff, Hoyte Hale, William Tramel, Chuck and Frosty Tramel, Roscoe and Elsie Tramel, Charlie Floyd Bailiff, Alvie Taylor, Johnny Shade Tramel, Alvie and Fannie Mullican, Paul and Jessie Bailiff, Effie Lee Fuston Webb and George and Charlie Tramel have gone on to their heavenly home and a few could not attend because of health problems.

Those who attended were Garry and Betty Mullican, Helen Burt, Riley and Peggy Tramel, Adam Tramel and Olivia, Paulette Carter, Kenneth L. Tramel, Joyce Taylor Stanley, Kenneth and Peggy Tramel, L.C. Tramel, Effie Lee Ellis, Deb Gramcik, Roy Breeding, Georgie T. Young, Martha T. Cantrell, Mark Pack, Bob E. and Linda Fuston, Jan and Steve Anderson, Shirley Taylor, Ruby T. Carter, Willie B. Pack, Donna Jane Davis, Ralph Tramel, and Kevin, Brenda, Zachary, and Dawson Bandy.
