Where were they from?

Although Bailiffs have settled in many areas throughout the United States, my direct line of descent settled in the Temperance Hall community, just east of Alexandria, in what is now DeKalb County, Tennessee.

They came to DeKalb County from Orange County, North Carolina during the 1820's.

My multi-great grandfather, Thomas Bailiff, settled in Orange County, North Carolina during the 1760's. He served as a juryman there in 1765.
His family was from Chester County, Pennsylvania. The Bayliff families there were shown on tax lists from the 1740's through the 1760's.

Other known areas of settlement by Bailiff/Bayliff families during the 1800's are: Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, & California

Thomas Isaac Bailiff Farm

The house was built prior to 1856 and was originally a log structure with a "dog-trot". The house was recently owned and occupied by the late Ms. Lucille Hale.
